It is only natural to look back and reflect on the events of the year and place meaning with them. There are both positive and negative things that occur in a life, but there is always a lesson to be learned. There were many of these over the past year, some big and some small but all significant.
When I think of the wonderful people who I meet each day, I find myself being awestruck by the potential success that exists in all people that they can’t see in themselves. It is like looking at Michael Jordan who doesn’t realize that he is a great basketball player. Greatness exists within everyone in one form or another and learning to listen to your heart and following your interests is all it takes to start to see this.
We each have space inside of us that exists for us to fill with all of the things that matter in our lives. From birth until we leave this experience people make decisions about what exactly is going to fill their empty space most enjoyable. All of the things we pay attention to and the actions that you take fill that space. As we grow older the decisions about the space are going to be more important. Things that filled our space when we were 20 years old, no longer seem to fit and fall away. Events that filled our space are over and in order for new experiences and things to get in we have to let things fall away from us and move comfortably into the past. What is in your space that you should let go of? What should you keep?
Bad days happen. We fall down, we make mistakes, and things fall apart. That is life, but it has been my observation that the people who move swiftly through these mishaps and enjoy the positive side of life have developed habits that are worth emulating. It is easy to let negativity creep into our lives as we live day to day, but consciously focusing our thoughts on the positives that exist in life will provide value where it seems that none really exists. Being in love with your life during each minute is the secret to happiness. Accepting the bitter with the sweet.
Things can change in an instant, and the things you dream of can come to you, today, out of the blue. Change is constant and inevitable. Hope is a powerful tool, that allows your dreams to be realized in a way that you may not have imagined before. It allows those changes to work for your pursuit of your best self.
Secrets to A Happy Life is my gift to anyone who visits this blog, it is a quick compilation of thoughts about achieving happiness in life. Just enter information and it will take you to the gift quickly and painlessly. (I hope) I wish you the best in all you do.
The past is a constant companion, it is always there, reminding, motivating or maybe even taunting us. The ghosts of things done, actions taken or not taken lead to the behavior we undertake today. Reflection on these things allows a person to choose between being swallowed by the past, never able to move forward or to release the past and move forward with new experiences.
There is a continual connection between you and your past. Hopefully visiting the ghosts of your past will allow you to put them behind you and move forward into the best version of yourself. Letting go of the past will set you free. These are some trips to the past that have haunted me on my journey and I need to put to rest once and for all.
Many of my difficulties in life have come from a lack of acceptance. Whether it was not accepting someone else’s behavior, my circumstances or just the way events have played out. My lack of acceptance has and always will lead to difficulties. Acceptance is the opposite of judgment, the positive side to that negative coin.
It is in our nature to judge others, we do it naturally, judging someone else’s behavior, actions, motives or past. It is a biological need to do this because it will help protect you from harmful situations and people and of course this is important to your survival.
It really jumps out at you when you observe people being judgmental about the behavior of others. It seems that today the judgments of others are high and the reactions to others are based on blind judgment and hate, it stands out and makes you wonder why it is that way. When you judge someone else in this manner you define yourself, not them. I think it is important to remember this.
Character Strengths Evaluation
Be prepared, it is a rather lengthy test, this post is about the results I got from taking the test.
I enjoy doing creative things because most often they reveal a lot about yourself. I am going to show you what they said were my strengths and then give my opinion on their validity and value because that’s what I do.
One of the simplest gifts we can give to others is the gift of kindness. It cost no money to be kind, and it takes no talent, in fact, all you have to possess to practice kindness is a willing heart to undertake the action and be kind. There is probably not a better method for improving a person’s outlook on life than to treat them with a little kindness. All people deserve your kindness, and like most things in life, the more willingly this gift is given the more it is received. Be a giver of kindness today.
To give completely is one of the best things that you can do for your well-being. Giving completely means that you expect absolutely nothing in return. Whether it is money, love or kindness, to give without expectation of a return will change your life more than anyone who receives something from you. Think about the energy that you are giving today. Is it positive? Or is it something else?
Our lives are dictated by the actions we decide to take each and every moment. I will point out the key part of that sentence, they are things that YOU DECIDE to complete. Taking actions, or lack thereof, create the reality of our lives and nothing will show the world more about one’s true character. Your consistent actions over time will more accurately describe your morals and character than anything else. Your actions tell the world what you want to be included in your life.
Yesterday I had one of the most interesting visitors I ever experienced. It was from my 10-year-old self and it was eye opening to remember how great that person was and even better to know that all of the great things about him
are still there inside of me now 40 years later.
There is a power in the word behind. There are a lot of ways that this word can be positively applied to your life. You can put things behind you and move on unencumbered by the past. You can find some wonderful things that are hidden just behind something, the sun behind a cloud for example. Behind can be a false motivator pushing us forward in pursuit of our goals. Focus on the positive nature of the word behind and it can change your life for the better.
Is there anything quite as unique as silence? Look at your life and honestly count and evaluate the moments that you are experiencing absolute silence. To me, this is any time that you are completely devoid of any human created sound at all.
I think that the right words can make all of the difference in everything from the power of your conversations to the value of your work to others. Words contain within them power and with that power, there is an opportunity to allow you to change the way others see the world, or even change the value of your own ideas. Choose your words wisely.
If the average human lifespan was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
I think that when you are young you don’t often think about death too much because in all likelihood you are going to have many years before that becomes relevant to you. Yet there is no way of knowing.
Being lost can be a very scary situation. You have no idea where you are or where to go to find safety and security. Yet it is in these times when a person has to look inside themselves for characteristics that will guide them toward a safe haven.
The qualities and talents we possess work to guide us in times of trouble. In fact, when the seas are calm and we know exactly where we are going there is no need for these talents to rise to the surface.
Painful experiences in life affect people in significant ways. They can cling to you and invade everything that you do each day coloring your existence with doubt and questions about your self-worth and value. Some people and/or events have hurt us down to our core and it seems we may never get over it, but we need to in order to move on and be the productive people we were meant to become in life. There are valuable life lessons to learn here.
