Right Where You Belong

Enjoy the Ride

right wh. shoudl beFrom the time I was a very young child , I have always been in a hurry to get to the next destination.  I remember being a kid and just aching for the time when I would be older and be able to do whatever older kids got to do.

This is a pattern that came up a lot in my life and I am sure in your life too.  I can’t wait until this happens or that happens and then I will be able to do this or have that.

What age has brought me besides just gray hair, is the understanding that each experience we have is exactly where we should be and if we just enjoy what we have life seems to be better and the things we are waiting for come quicker and easier.

Really Enjoying the Moment

enjoy the mometnThis is advice that we all have heard, but for me it was very difficult to enjoy this experience because my mind was often distracted by thoughts that detracted from the moment.  You should do this, you should have done that, a smart person would have, if you were more talented you would have.

All of those thoughts I am sure come to each and every one of us and distract from what we are doing at that very moment.  I think any commute of any kind is a great practice in this. There is a trip that you must endure, you have no choice. You can spend that time thinking about what you will do when you reach your destination, dreaming of food, television, time with loved ones, or whatever it is that happens when you get home.

What these thoughts do is distract from what you are experiencing on that commute. Maybe there is great natural beauty on your journey.  A great song might come on the radio, the moment doesn’t know you are on a commute, that happens every working day.  Pay attention to it. Think, smile, enjoy whatever is in your path.  That day and those exact circumstances has never existed before and most likely won’t again.  Pay attention to the beauty in your journey and soon you will enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

(Yes I was thinking about this on my commute today.)

You Are Supposed to Be Here

This is exactly the right place for you, right here, right now!
This is exactly the right place for you, right here, right now!

Maybe you are working a job you are not crazy about or in a situation that you wish would change, it will, because the one thing that you can count on in life is that everything changes whether we like it or not.

Take the time to enjoy the small things that you enjoy about what your life offers you. It may be the coworkers you have, the responsibility, the challenge or just the coffee break or lunch break each day.  There is something that you enjoy about your job. If there isn’t then I don’t think its  the job that needs to be evaluated.

You can plan and prepare for the future all that you want, and that is what brings hope to each of us. That tomorrow will provide us with the feelings, answers, or happiness that today lacks.

Hope is a powerful thing and to me is an unbelievably positive thing, yet do not hurry the journey because often times the lessons we learn while doing things we aren’t wild about allow us to achieve greatness later on in things we could never have imagined.

So I advise anyone who is looking ahead to any milestone to stay focused on achieving their goals but to also maintain an enjoyment for the moment and what you are doing  right now.

It is the irony of life that often we spend our time dreaming of getting to a certain destination and then in a few years we spend our time dreaming of where we used to be.  There is no need to worry you are just where you are supposed to be to play your part. Play your part with all the passion you can muster and you will know that there is nothing to worry about the future and no regrets about your past.

You Are Just Where You Are Supposed to Be!!

I include this short video on change, 1. because it exemplifies the point that change is happening and we had better enjoy the moment.  2. Because I like this song, because all we have is right here and right now. Nothing else is guaranteed.
