My Next Step

Click Image to say HI to Raimy-D. She has an entourage and wears jewelry like a rapper. But she is great!

One of my favorite people in the blogisphere is my friend Raimy-D(creative-guru.com).  She spends her time dreaming up stuff for me and others to try to experience. I am two activities behind but I am making an effort to do this one in real-time and let the chips fall where they will. I will take a lot of positive thinking to get this done.

Automatic Writing Assignment

This activity is called automatic writing and I was intrigued because I had such a good time when I tried her automatic drawing exercise, highlighted by Raimy-D and her expert analysis of my very talented drawings.

It was liberating and fun. So automatic writing, no problem, this should spark some positive thinking.

1271254066-writingwithpenThis is how it is supposed to work

So it should work like this:  1. Think of a question you want to have answered in your life.

2. start writing without a conscious thought. (easier for some than others)

3. write until you get tired I guess or until you feel like you are done.

The idea is that the subconscious mind will answer the question that you ask.  I have told Raimy-D that I am a little fearful of doing this because what if the answer isn’t something I want to hear?  But bravery is the better part of valor here and I am going to do this right now, right here and you can read my ramblings.

The question: What is my next step supposed to be in life? (Play the song at the bottom when you read, it is neat.)

swansThere were twelve swans that went to a local pond to take a swim. The water was warm but the swans didn’t know about the secret underneath the water. There were worlds that they had never seen. one at a time the swans would dive for food and while under the water they saw what was there and went to investigate each finding their own world to explore for awhile. Until there was only one swan left and he looked around and realized that he was all alone. He called for help, but no one came. He wanted to fly away but also couldn’t leave his companions without knowing their fate.  He had never seen anything but food on his dives so he was unaware of the mysteries below the water. Finally he dove deep and saw out of the corner of his eye a light that he couldn’t resist. He swam as hard a he could toward the light and with all of his effort he made it and emerged into a  totally new world. It was colorful, and full of beautiful trees, sparkling lakes it had a lot of green grass to walk on and beautiful puffy white clouds that the swan couldn’t wait to fly into.  There was no reason he could think of that this place existed but here it was he could touch it with his feet and taste it with his tongue. It seemed real to him and in the end I guess that is all that mattered.

questions

Answer my questions please.

So there you go I am not going to read this until after Raimy-D looks at it and tells me what she thinks. The answer will be in the comments. Feel free to contribute your own interpretation of the story I am open to any and all guidance in this endeavor.  I just want to learn about my next step.

I encourage you to give this a try for yourself and see what happens.  I definitely encourage you to read the Creative Guru so that you can try all of this neat stuff as well.

  1. I read it and what first came to my mind was this- when all our friends suddenly seem to disappear because they are busy pursuing their own goals and fulfilling their own prophecies, we are left to our own means. This might sometimes make us a little lonely, but soon, we learn to cope with it and find our own direction and path in life. Knowingly or unknowingly we then reach our own place of happiness and satisfaction. I loved what you wrote Jonathan. I think the concept of automatic writing is pretty neat :)

    1. Thank you for reading Amba and for commenting and I think you might be right. I also think that maybe you should try automatic writing to answer some of your questions. I have appreciated having all of your comments and I am glad (selfishly) that you have the time to do it! Thank you so much for reading my stuff. I look forward to your next post. :-)

  2. I had an awesome time reading this while listening to the song which was also awesome. Great story, such beautiful imagery! Ok, so the first thing that caught my attention was the number 12, as you may or may not know in numerology the number 12 means completion, wholeness, and harmony as 12 is a harmonious unit. Second, swans symbolize prosperous outlooks and delightful experiences. I remember that you drew a duck in the subconscious drawing and once again in the automatic writing there is allure to the feathered creatures. Then there is the theme of exploring and mysteries, as in your drawing of the boat. At the end of the writing I got a feeling that what your trying to do is to live life according to your own terms. I cannot help but wonder if your next step should be to take a vacation, to fly off somewhere you’ve always dreamed of. Or perhaps if a trip is not possible yet just realize that where you are now is already wonderful you just have to look at it from a new angle, as the swans did by ducking their heads under water. This was such a great story, you should write an adventure story some day :-)

    1. Tremendous analysis of my writing assignment. I really couldn’t wait to hear what you thought .(You might have noticed) In my mind I almost changed the swans to ducks, but stuck with swans because that is initially what was there. It is funny because much of your evaluation was spot on. I don’t know if it revealed any of the answer, but I can tell you that much of what I read made sense to me. I can’t tell you how interesting this was, from a perspective of looking for an answer and seeing what I would find. It was scary, and exciting and interesting all at the same time. Thank you Raimy-D (still chuckle in my head every time I write that.) You are a very inspiring person. No pressure but I can’t wait to see what is coming next. :-)

      1. Toward the end of reading your post I thought what a great adventure story writer you are, the swan story was so vivid. Maybe that should be your next step, write a book like the next Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings or The Polar Express :-) Well I’m off to think off what my next post should be, I have a feeling it will be about dancing so get your dancing shoes ready haha.

        1. You don’t have to be a psychologist to be awesome, you do it every day. I am grateful for these little exercises. They are fun and insightful. I learn new things all the time and they help me continually stretch myself and try new things. I am grateful for that.

  3. Wow, that was so interesting!!!! I am not an expert an interpreting stories from the subconscious, however I feel that it means that you are meant for greatness. That you are brave and have the courage to look outside the “square” to follow your dreams. But at the same time you are also honourable (looking out for your friends), and loyal.

    :-)

    Meg

    1. Oh Meg, if you think I was meant for greatness then I think you are an expert at interpreting stories. thank you so much for your comments I am grateful for all participation, especially from someone as wonderful as you! :-)

    1. You should definitely try it. The automatic drawing one as well, both were interesting to do and I learned a little something I wouldn’t have known before. thank you for reading and commenting, I saw that you have written something new and I am sure wonderful. Can’t wait to read it .

    1. thanks! Hell yeah she is! One of the great ones. Thanks for commenting and reading about this little experiment Anthony! I a truly grateful.

  4. From your story I came up with this: It sounds like your taking a step in life you’re unsure of. You’ve seen others take this step and “dive in” so to speak. Somehow you mustered the courage to explore a new side of yourself that maybe you didn’t know exsisted. Once you opened up that new side, you realized that even though it wasn’t what you were expecting, and it may take some getting used to, you’re enjoying it. I don’t think it makes you a follower, or really has much to do with anyone else, but more than you finally gained the perspective to explore a different side of life that others displayed to you. Realization that life is and can be whatever you make it has finally struck.

    Was I close?

    1. Hope Rose, those are some great thoughts. I agree many things have changed in my life and more importantly in my perspective on the world. I definitely have been exploring a different side to life. You have probably noticed that since you knew me before. I am not sure how close you are because the question was the next step. I am still not sure what that is. Stay, leave, go left, go right. You will know when I know. I am grateful for the comment, I enjoy all of your writing. You have such a great perspective. I would never have really got into this blogging stuff if it hadn’t been for you last fall. So I owe you a thank you. :-)

  5. I agree with much of what Raimyd said: your drawings and your writing do seem to corside.

12 is a prominent number in your writing, Raimyd already mentioned what 12 means in astrology but it also has a specific meaning in the bible: Twelve is the last of the number God uses to show his perfection. It’s the number that shows God is in control and actively ruling over something as King. <> <>

So like Meg said, perhaps you are signifying you are meant for greatness and others around you are going to either help you reach that greatness or you are going to be helping them. You could already know who these people are, or perhaps you don’t yet.

I also agree that you should look at it from a different angle, as your swan did. the 12 dunked their heads under the water “into the darkness”. “Facing the fear” Your swan and to face his fear even more because he didn’t see anything under the surface worth “chasing” yet he went ahead and faced many fears – The fear of feeling knowing that he had The fact that his instincts told him to So he had to face the and all alone too. Looking at life differently and seeing the light Trusting in himself and his faith, Perhaps, you need to Let go and let life and trust in YOURSELF and your faith. Take that “trip” that Raimyd mentioned be it physical or spiritual. Perhaps there is an enlightenment block that is dark and scary you need to make within and unblock, let the light in.

    1. That is great perspective. I didn’t think of it like an enlightenment block. That is why I appreciate your contribution so much. A different view is often a clear one. I am not sure what it means but I am fascinated by it. Thank you for taking the time again to examine my thoughts and look for a direction. I am so grateful for your participation with this.

  6. Great story, Jonathan. You are a swan–don’t forget that. Also, a whole new world of possibility and beauty is right at your fingertips/beak if you just have the courage to pursue it. To quote Poltergeist–Go into the light. haha.
Thank you for sharing this personal writing. I, too, feel like that swan left alone. I’ll meet you on the other side. {{{Hugs}}} Kozo

    1. Thanks Kozo, I will meet you there! It is comforting to know!! It was a great experience to do this and I would encourage anyone else to try it. Loved your friendship post today, I am still pondering it. Thanks my friend. You are the man.

Let me know your thoughts.
