Let Me Ask You A Question

Posted by on 6:08 PM in Blog Around The Sun | 18 comments

Do you ask enough questions or do you settle for what you know? by Jon Hilton I was reading this question and wondering how to craft my answer in a way that was relatively interesting and informative. This is what I decided, life is the ultimate classroom and like being in any class in the history of education how much of yourself you put into it, determines how much you are going to get out of it. This is my philosophy on questions. The Point Of Not Asking Many times in a class, or in life, you may just want to fly under the radar. You may...

What I Should Have Done

What do you wish you spent more time doing five years ago? by Jon Hilton Life can go through a lot of twists and turns in the course of five years, I have changed jobs several times, moved three times, and changed my entire outlook on life. To look back it is kind of amazing that so many experiences came to me in such a short number of years but they did. Here is what I wish I had spent my time doing five years ago. I Don’t Think I Thought Enough One of the things that I really wish I spent more time doing was thinking.  Not the egoic...

Lessons I learned the Hard Way

What life lesson did you learn the hard way? by Jonathan Hilton In life there are really only two ways to learn things, the easy way and the hard way. I envy the people who can master learning the easy way, for I can only read about these types of accomplishments. I am a person who seems to learn only the hard way.  That is the only way that the lessons sink in and stick.  For me there are a few life lessons I have learned the hard way that might be beneficial to read about. Your Job is NOT your Identity As I was being groomed by the the...

Getting Excited About Life

What gets you excited about life? byJonathan Hilton Every person no matter what they do, has to find things that get him excited about life. They do not have to be complicated or expensive things but there are some that get you going and allow you to feel excited about life.  I would never presume to speak for anyone but myself but here are the things that get me excited about being alive and living on this planet. Learning and Reading When I was a young person, I did not care all that much for learning. It was something that you had to do to...

Perfectly Imperfect

Posted by on 6:46 PM in Blog Around The Sun | 12 comments

What’s the most sensible thing you’ve ever heard someone say? All you can do is the best that you can.  I heard these words a long time ago and I think I try to do more than this all of the time. I have an inner desire to be absolutely perfect and I forget from time to time that I just can’t be that.  When I fall short in one area then I can deal with that OK. But when several fronts of my life conspire together to point out my imperfections all at once it is a bit frustrating and defeating.  I am not sure if other people encounter this...

One of A Kind Original

Who do you sometimes compare yourself to? by Jonathan Hilton When I first saw this question I spent a few moments thinking of who I actually compare myself to. It was very difficult because I don’t really compare myself to anyone. I do not care where I am in life as opposed to someone else. I don’t care how much money I have in comparison to anyone else.  I really don’t care about the car I drive, the clothes I wear or a certain hair style. I wear what I like, I drive what gets me there and I cut my hair the way it feels...

The Blog Around the Sun

by Jon Hilton  Day 1 Many elements factor into our decision-making process. The effort one must put forth, the time that must be expended and the expected reward that will be returned for the time and effort.  This imaginary scale weighs and measures most of our activities from the time we are quite young until we reach the grave. I am discussing  on this topic because I just read about a writing project that is bigger than anything I have ever thought of attempting, but I think will be rewarding for me and hopefully for anyone who reads.  A...

I See Music

“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.” ― Albert Einstein by Jon Hilton I have never read a quote that describes my connection to music as well as this one from Albert Einstein.  As long as I can remember there has always been music in my life which has comforted me when I was down, encouraged me in life and motivated me to achieve things that I have and am accomplishing. There is something about a song that moves past your brain and...

Finding Your Path

by Jon Hilton Life is a wonderful and funny thing. It is destined to surprise you and lead you to places that you may never have anticipated.  I believe that much of the enjoyment of life comes directly from inside of you and how you perceive the people you meet and the experiences you have. Sometimes early on in the journey of life you may find life a confusing jumble of mixed messages and emotions that it seems would take the greatest adventurer or psychic to smooth out and work through.  Nobody ever said that the life would be easy, but in...

My Soul Searching

Soul Searching Begins It seems that weekly I read a blog post from the Creative Guru that gives me a great project to attempt or a something wonderful to write. Today I read her wonderful blog which was just full of all of the questions that I ask all the time.  Soul Searching questions that I often spend my time contemplating.  So I am endeavoring to answer each of them for me and what I believe. Feel free to answer them for you, and how you feel. That is the value of such questions, to help you fine tune your beliefs. Is there really a...
