Actions Speak Louder

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

f001204b6fd165dc1183c91d456e0fc1_xlargeIt seems a little empty to put so much emphasis on doing things when I spend so much time writing words and in effect saying quite a lot.

Yet when the final toll is tallied, I have high hopes that the words or actions that come from me will in the end allow me to have done more.

Actions are clear, and concise and there is a lot less opportunity to misunderstand their meaning.

Doing takes a lot more effort than saying does, yet for me I think that what I say is important.

Too Much Talk

propaganda-IIWhen I used to pay attention to the main stream media it was a lot easier to be depressed.

They use so much spin and so many words that when you analyze them they really don’t amount to anything at all, just empty vessels of sound that don’t say anything worthwhile.

It reminds me that most talk is this way and perhaps if we were more vehicles of action rather than proponents of talk, the world would be a better place. Yet we listen as a society to each of the stories that are mass produced, largely to make you feel fear to either buy the products they are selling or to watch their program to be better “informed”.

This industry is the number one cause of fear in our country and a great example of an entire industry that will never do more than they say.  Stop listening to that talk and you will be much happier.

Where Do I Stand?

How often in your life have your words been empty?  How many times do you talk about other people or situations that really don’t have anything to do with you?  I can answer that for most of us because it is often.

emptywordsThe easiest thing to do to make yourself feel momentarily better or to be right is to talk about the perceived mistakes of others, to make yourself feel better about your own life and choices.

There comes a time however when you will have to stop the talk and start looking inward at the things that are robbing you of your happiness.  Is it a lack of money? Is it a lack of property? Is it a lack of love? Why are things this way?

Once you start asking these questions and start to look at your own inadequacies and the changes you should be making in your life, the task is so large that it is no wonder so many fall to petty gossip to just gloss over these questions.

Ignoring them won’t make them go away because you will be able to have all the money in the world and live in the biggest house money can buy, and still not be happy. Taking action and leaving these words behind is the path I hope that I follow.

One Step at a Time

better or worseThe only way to develop as I see it is to work on being better every day.  You are only going to go one of two ways every day, either you  are going to get better or you are going to get worse, nobody stays the same.

You determine your direction with your thoughts, what you say has very little impact on what type of person you actually are. It is your thoughts that will lead to  your actions and those actions will determine if you are better or worse.

Talk is cheap.  Thought and action speak in loud volumes that will last far longer than any words you can ever speak.  The great thing is that we have a new opportunity each and every day to make choices and to take actions that lead us closer to being the kind of person we really want to be.

These actions can be small, a kind thought about another, an honest deed, or just simply treating someone else with respect.  I just hope that my own life does have enough time left to achieve more significant action so that I can do more than I said.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

Let’s See Action, Let’s see People, Let’s be free and see who cares.

The act of writing is still an action, isn’t it? Your actions are you sharing your words, your thoughts, guidance, advice, suggestions, contemplations, etc… with the rest of us. Your actions are using your written voice to inspire us to be better, to think deeper, to challenge ourselves to grow. I’d say you are doing quite a lot.

Love the song!! and the post too of course! :)

“The only way to develop as I see it is to work on being better every day. ” I so heart this and I think it’s a fun journey!!! (even though at times you want to run around with a frying pan and give some souls a friendly tap on the head ;) )

Love that song too! It takes me back to when I was just a young boy, and nobody could tell me what to do. I loved the Who way back then. It is a fun journey and I am glad that nobody I know is currently trying to hit me in the head with a heavy pan!!:-) I am grateful for the read Purni my friend.

Terrific post Jon. While I have no small love of words there are times when action is a better tack. There are countless times in life when words can fall hollow without something to back them up and there are times when words cannot express emotion. People often have a tendency to hide behind their words when they have fear of taking action and I agree, forward momentum requires some sort of action. Your own words are not hollow for I believe they are heartfelt. I think the answer to the question is simple – live as you write and surround yourself with people who appreciate both your actions and words. :)

That is what I hope to do. Live my life like I write. Thank you Julie, very nice comments and I am grateful for them. :-) This whole camp thing has kept me incredibly busy, and is getting busier as we get closer to summer. The great thing about this camp thing is that I get to experiment with a lot of my philosophies. Thank you Julie!

Acting on your words is quite important. I wrote something on that AGES ago when I first started this blog. I think its essential to remind ourselves to not fall into the trap of just saying things and making empty promises. I try to remember that no matter what I do, with this blog or with friends and family, etc.
Its funny because thats what it is for how I view people who participate in dragonboat (or any sport). Its all good to say that you participated but did you give it your all and make yourself the best you could be. Acting on your words is reflected very much there. ;)
Thanks Jon! Love the post :)

Thank you Kim for the kind words. They made me feel really happy this morning. I think you are definitely a great person and you seem to do what you say. I loved the vlog by the way. I have read your words so much and for me there is a voice that I imagine you sound like. Now I know, it wasn’t much different. I am grateful for you to take the time and read and leave comments, Kim, you are awesome. :-)

I don’t say anything I don’t mean and sometimes there are no words to describe what you’re feeling inside. I am an empath so when I am open to it I know when people mean what they say or not. Your actions and words do connect and you are such a honest person Jon and you write from the heart. That is what makes it so special. Thanks for the lovely post once again and have a stunning day! *hugs*

Thank you QB, I really write what I feel and that is all. I always feel like I should do more, but I just love writing from what is in my mind. Thank you so much for the kind words and the comment. It makes my day!!

And that is all that’s needed Jon and yes, I know the feeling. I guess there are way too many words that can’t be spoken but believe me, it does come through. :) *hugs*

I was just reading on another blog earlier how important actions are to children. How if we say one thing and do another it can negatively impact how they develop their social skills. For me, it’s all about a person’s actions. I’ve had too many people’s words not match their actions. I now listen to their words (hoping for the best), but wait for their actions to be the same as their words. I strive to make sure that what I say is what I do. It makes a difference when your actions mirror your words! thank you for this post :-)

Thank you Kira for taking the time to read and to comment. I agree, I remember people who have told me one thing and then done another. I am sure that in my adulthood I may have done this, especially as a young man. I am petrified to do this now. I want to represent all that I say in all my actions. I want to mirror my words always. I am grateful for your contribution and thought here!! :-)

I believe that your actions do mirror your words, Jonathan. From everything I’ve read you do a great job of this on a daily basis!

Thanks Katie! I really believe that is true. Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I got an email of a post for you yesterday, which I could read in the email, about what type of web browser you use. It was classic Katie and I was looking forward to replying because it was just so freakin’ good. When I clicked on it, it said that the page didn’t exist. I read it so I know it exists, Anyway, Fantastic job, I laughed, I prefer to use Chrome, why? no idea, but your definition of chrome users as hipsters made me chuckle a bit. You are either an IE or safari girl, it only depends if you spend the cash for the mac or settle for the PC. Inquiring minds what to know!! Anyway I just loved that post I counld not find.

I feel the same way, Jon, that I want to devote what time I have here to make sure my actions match my words. I also like your point about being able to choose at every moment how we think and act. Love the 49er’s billboard, since I live in the Bay Area. {{{hugs]}} kozo

Actions and words are one. That is my goal for me. Your west coast, I’m east coast, that is ok, we are still the same my brother! You are the man!

This really hit home with me. You get better or worse, but no one stays the same. Isn’t that profoundly true! I enjoyed your Too Much Talk section. I used to be a news hound, especially missing kids stories, some politics. Well, when my ex was arrested, he forbade us to watch television so that we would not see coverage of his arrest. I never went back to watching the news. I am just 21 days shy of watching no news for 2 years. I have to say if I could choose one good thing he did, it would be that. Nope, I take that back because his motives were selfish. Anyway, it has been very freeing for me just to simply live. My oldest son is very careful to tell me things he thinks I might need to know but very hesitant to do so because he feels like he doesn’t want to drag me down about things that I can’t do anything about anyway. It has really changed my perspective on things. I think I now consider things that I am responsible for rather than losing myself in other people’s stories. Believe me, I am not able to keep totally sequestered and I don’t really want to. There are a lot of opportunities for things to filter into my life and they do and it’s okay. Anyway, sort of went on a tangent. I loved the article as always and I will be really paying attention as to what decisions I am making each day, to be better or worse because I can’t stay the same. I love that thought. Thanks, Jon!

What a great comment. I appreciate what you have shared and understand I think. There are good things that come out of seemingly “bad” situations. One person’s selfish intentions can lead to good things for others all the time. I always try to make myself a better person each day, I am not sure how well I do, but I am trying, I definitely learn more every day from all that I experience. From dealing with people to watching how I think. I haven’t watched the news in over a year so you are way ahead of me there. I haven’t missed a thing except the negative spin and fear. I have been able to wash my own brain so to speak. In this day,it is not possible to not hear what is happening, but I like to think I can make up my own mind about things. I am so grateful for the comment and the time you took to read. It makes my day! Thank you Daphne.
