As we live our lives from day to day, waking up in the morning, getting prepared for challenges ahead, and then journeying out into the world to see what adventures the day has in store for us, what is it that we are looking for? Some people are looking for fame, some are looking for fortune and some are looking for it all. Having a dream is the juice that makes life interesting. It provides unlimited possibility and the chance for failure. We are all looking for something.
You Can’t Have a Positive Life with a Negative Mind – Unknown
Our thoughts are the most important thing that we create. Every day there is a non-stop production of thought coming from our minds and we are subject to the powers of the ones we pay attention to. In life, if we are truly looking to live in a positive manner than we have to learn to pay attention to the positive thoughts and let all the negative ones go.
It is amazing that life continually puts you into situations that challenge and change you. It is also eye-opening that I continue to be surprised by this. Yet here I am looking at what I want to create, standing on the precipice of going for it and tentatively cringing. It is not rare, I think, for people to feel this way. When you look at the majority of people, they have put their real goals and dreams aside to accept living in a rut of consistency and security that life provides. Safe is the choice, but we still have dreams that we are not acting on. Today I am looking to act and am encouraging you to come with me.
Every day we are responsible for making a choice. We make choices about how we feel about everything and everybody. When you are lacking money, what choice do you have? When you are lacking love, what choice do you have? When you are lacking praise and recognition for your greatness, what choice do you have? That is what I want to write about. In all things we have a choice, it is given to us when we are born and our choices dictate the experience of our lives. We just seem to forget that how we feel about anything and anyone is dependent on making a choice.
Why Don’t we all choose Happiness?
Happiness is a goal that everyone wants to experience. How many times have you just wanted to be happy with life, your choices, the people that you know and the things that you own? Yet there is a deep feeling of angst inside that what you have and/or what you are is simply not enough. You would be happier if you were taller, thinner, had a nicer car, or a more interesting significant other. The true source of happiness is located within you.
In every moment we have a power to create all our experiences in life and they are created by our exercising the power of choice. In all things there are choices to make and the results of these choices will lead to the nature of your experience. It applies to everything and everybody our choices define our lives.
Reading is The Key to Learning Anything
If you are looking to be the best that you can be, I don’t think that there is a better activity for you than reading. When you talk to people today it is sad how little we read books that expand our horizons and push ourselves to grow and think a little bit.
I understand that there is an inordinate number of distractions out there today, all vying for our short attention spans, and books seem to be getting the short end of the stick. With that so are we.
Being creative is one of the gifts of being human. We all have the ability to look at the same situation and come up with different ways of solving the puzzle and finding a solution. In fact, this can be one of the most valuable tools we have when it comes to making money, excelling in a career or simply just being great as ourselves. Sometimes it can be difficult to muster a creative answer but there are some things that you can do to make your thought process more creative and perhaps find an answer that you are looking for.
Each day we are given a new opportunity to create greatness both in the world we live in and in our personal lives. It seems that as we embark on our daily adventure it can be derailed most often by our own limiting thoughts and fear based behavior. I wonder what would happen if we were able to fully grasp the magic that is available in each and every day and make life the grand show it was meant to be.
This is a much more difficult concept than it appears on the surface. You can’t just will yourself to be happy. It has to come from the focus of your daily consciousness. As you become more aware of positive things inside of you, the level of happiness you experience will increase.
I think that no matter how far along you have come in life there are always some things that have stuck with you and even though you think that you have let go of it, you really haven’t.
For me to be happy in life and to really enjoy the experiences that I am blessed with every day, there is a constant letting go of perceived slights, whether big or small from others. Forgive the people, let the act go and release the negative from your life.
What Goes Around Comes Around
Finding motivation for new topics can be difficult and sometimes it is way more challenging than others. Living in Maine there are a lot of inspirations; natural beauty, people, space all can contribute. Yet the great thoughts I have been exposed to through reading great blogs online can really fuel the fire of creativity. Below are some of the motivation I have been lucky to be exposed to. Mindfulness, listening, facing fear, and of course what goes around, does, in fact, come back around to you. What you send out does reappear in your life and it leads to some of the most interesting writing.
Taking Advice on the Game of life
There is nothing I enjoy more than encouraging others. I am at the stage of my life that I have been through enough to know life is not all sunshine and rainbows but have experienced enough to know that you can still be happy regardless. In my interactions with others daily I often find myself counseling people to relax and let life work itself out. This is of course very difficult to do because we have been conditioned from birth to make things happen. To be the captain of our destinies. But the older I get the more I understand how very little I actually know. Life if much smarter than me and you too. Here are a few observations that life has taught me.
What We Value
It is revealing how the things we attach value to change over the years. Some things that once meant everything to us, now mean absolutely nothing, and conversely, some things we didn’t value at all, come to mean everything in our lives as you grow and your values change. I believe that understanding the things that are valuable or important to us is a huge part of growing and finding what makes you a happy, productive human being enjoying life on this planet. Let’s see what things I am putting into my treasure chest of life.
When you are 80 years old, what will matter to you the most?
Put your marker at the start, take your turn, roll the dice and see if you can get to the finish before anybody else with more stuff than you need. Life is not playing out that way for me, does it for anybody?
I know enough to know, that I do not know that I don’t know anything about what life might be like in a year from now, let alone in thirty-one years from now.
If I heard it once, I have heard it a thousand times. Life is just not fair. I have heard it from family members, friends, politicians and even from myself on more than one occasion. I am here to tell you today that this statement is the biggest false cliché, defeatist statements that a person can listen to or accept. Life is very fair and here is why.
Perspectives of Pain and Suffering
When a person says, life isn’t fair, they don’t really mean it. What they mean is, I am going through something that is less than pleasant, annoying, or downright heart wrenching, and I prefer it when others experience this stuff, not me.
Who do you sometimes compare yourself to?
“He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away.”
– Raymond Hull
When I first saw this question I spent a few moments thinking of who I actually compare myself to. It was very difficult because I don’t really compare myself to anyone. Not because I don’t want to grow and aspire to the positive traits of others, but rather I like who I am quite a bit and can’t see me being anyone else.
How many great ideas are destroyed before they have a chance to take root? How many are discarded by the neglect of time? Due to fear of failure or a lack of self-confidence? The time to wait is over and the time for action is here. Taking action is THE ingredient that turns the perfect combination of raw materials into a masterpiece. A life is defined by the actions one takes or in many cases the inaction.
I wanted to share a few of the things I have learned about grasping your life by the throat through action. none of them are very difficult to do but they can be daunting. I continually have to remind myself about these things.
If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
Presented with the opportunity to teach anything I wanted, and assuming that anyone wanted to learn, there is no doubt that I would try to teach a few of the things I have learned from life that I think are important.
There were many important things that I never really considered early on in life, which has proven to be invaluable and nearly vital knowledge today.
These lessons may not be mind blowing but I think they are important for you to be all that you want to be in life. Whether you think they have a place in your life or not is up to you.
I am tremendously grateful for a conscious decision I made about four years ago to stop watching the national news and leaving the fear mongering and celebrity worship behind.
I don’t seem to be missing out on anything positive and am just as informed as I always have been, but the real benefit is the fact that I have not been subject to the consistent stream of negativity that comes from any of the national news outlets. I think this enables me to be happier on a daily basis.
