When you are 80 years old, what will matter to you the most?
Life once looked like a straight road. A path to a predetermined end that was so simple to follow that it would be like playing a board game.
Put your marker at the start, take your turn, roll the dice and see if you can get to the finish before anybody else with more stuff than you need. Life is not playing out that way for me, does it for anybody?
I know enough to know, that I do not know that I don’t know anything about what life might be like in a year from now, let alone in thirty-one years from now. Read more...(1094 words, 14 images, estimated 4:23 mins reading time)
If I heard it once, I have heard it a thousand times. Life is just not fair. I have heard it from family members, friends, politicians and even from myself on more than one occasion. I am here to tell you today that this statement is the biggest false cliché, defeatist statements that a person can listen to or accept. Life is very fair and here is why.
Perspectives of Pain and Suffering
When a person says, life isn’t fair, they don’t really mean it. What they mean is, I am going through something that is less than pleasant, annoying, or downright heart wrenching, and I prefer it when others experience this stuff, not me. Space -a continuous area or expanse that is free, available, or unoccupied.
One of the words that can be difficult to understand and find in our lives is space. This is the area in which someone has room to grow and develop their skills and ideas and understand the talents they possess and the things they understand. It is important to find our own personal space and to allow for those we care about to have theirs as well. However many times people seem to behave like steamrollers, plowing through other people’s boundaries and clear needs in order to reassure ourselves. Become aware of the space that you need and the space you can provide for others today in your thoughts, words, and actions today. Read more...(691 words, 5 images, estimated 2:46 mins reading time)
“He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away.” – Raymond Hull
When I first saw this question I spent a few moments thinking of who I actually compare myself to. It was very difficult because I don’t really compare myself to anyone. Not because I don’t want to grow and aspire to the positive traits of others, but rather I like who I am quite a bit and can’t see me being anyone else. Question- a sentence worded or expressed so as to elicit information.
One of the greatest powers we have in our mind is to create questions our minds have no choice but to answer. Most people don’t realize the power this gives them because the asking yourself the right questions will lead you to the answers that will enhance or limit your life. So it is important you learn to ask the right questions to receive the results you want to see in your life. This takes practice and an awareness of the questions you are already asking yourself each and every day. Evaluate if they are questions that are helpful or harmful and make changes accordingly. Your mind will help you find the answers and it all starts with being conscious of your words, thoughts, and actions when it comes to the questions you ask yourself and how you ask them. If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
Presented with the opportunity to teach anything I wanted, and assuming that anyone wanted to learn, there is no doubt that I would try to teach a few of the things I have learned from life that I think are important.
There were many important things that I never really considered early on in life, which has proven to be invaluable and nearly vital knowledge today.

I am tremendously grateful for a conscious decision I made about four years ago to stop watching the national news and leaving the fear mongering and celebrity worship behind.
I don’t seem to be missing out on anything positive and am just as informed as I always have been, but the real benefit is the fact that I have not been subject to the consistent stream of negativity that comes from any of the national news outlets. I think this enables me to be happier on a daily basis.Read more...(841 words, 12 images, estimated 3:22 mins reading time)
Attitude-a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.
Attitude is everything because it is a result of the way we think and feel about everything. If you are not conscious of your attitude and why you think or feel a certain way about something, then you are at the mercy of that thought pattern. Many of our damaging issues, resulting from low self-esteem stem from our attitude about ourselves and perceptions about our abilities and values. Today make a pact with yourself to be conscious of your attitude today and the resulting experience that comes from it. Look at your thoughts, words, and actions and see how they reflect your attitude toward life, other people and most importantly yourself. Minds work overtime, sometimes and I wrote this list originally several years ago but continually update my core beliefs as new evidence and experience prove old ideas in need of tweaking or total replacement. So here are the current version of MY CORE BELIEFS. Presented in no particular order, here are a few of the things that I hold as truths for my life.
We Are All Connected
Call it God, the Universe, or whatever your religion dictates, but to me, we are all connected through divine order. All people contain the same abilities for great love, and equal power to commit evil. That is just a part of this crazy game called life. How often do you look at yourself and truly evaluate the greatest weakness? The honesty and emotions that are raised by this sort of inquiry are not dismissed lightly. I recently searched my life to identify my biggest weakness.
Now there are probably many that people who know me would think of, and some who don’t know me could come up with a lot more. I never claimed to be perfect, but when it comes down to my absolute biggest weakness, it is the fact that I have cared way too much about what other people thought about me. Children, when left to their own devices are able to imagine deeply, fully and amazingly. Their power to look at the world and create a mental image that only exists in their mind is amazing. Struggle- make forceful or violent efforts to get free of restraint or constriction.
Life will never be easy all the time. If it was people would never develop the skills they need to provide their skill to the world. We will struggle in all facets of our lives both personally and professionally. It is human nature to want to avoid these obstacles because it would be easier without them. But easy is not always good and it is important to be thankful for the struggles we face because all of them bring with them an opportunity to become a better version of ourselves. We are always given a choice to let the struggle we face dictate the action of our lives or to let our lives dictate how we defeat the struggle. It begins with being conscious of your struggles and the opportunity they are providing to you. Change is an inevitable and vital part of life. Change is happening to everyone each day. Some of the differences are so imperceptible as to be invisible but they are there none the less. All of us have a deep desire inside to know what is going to happen next. Where are we going? What is the next step? What should I do now?
Sometimes it seems like it would be much easier if our lives were scripted in a book that we could read before hand, like a play. Follow the script and you will eventually come to your happy ending and everything will be alright. A happy ending for all situations. That is just not the way that life works and I, for one, am grateful for it. Face the new experiences of life and bravely embrace the unknown. You really don’t have any other choice. Time~ the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.
Life is nothing but the rolling of time and the experiences that each person collects along the way. We choose if we spend our time wisely or foolishly. Time is irrefutable, non-negotiable and inevitable. We only get a finite amount of it and our consciousness should be spent considering the ways in which we spend this most valuable of commodities. Evaluate your life and the people you spend time with, the thoughts you entertain and the activities you participate on a daily basis. Are these things a valuable use of your time? Be conscious of the things you love doing, that make you feel alive and the people who add value to your life. Then spend more time with them doing things you value. There is no such thing as normal. Normal is a word that will bring a different vision to everyone’s mind, but to me each vision is biased by the experiences of the thinker. The point to me is that there is no need to appoint a value of “normal” to anybody or anybody’s life. Read more...(634 words, 5 images, estimated 2:32 mins reading time)
There are questions we ask ourselves all of our lives that can haunt us if we let them. What if that decision was wrong? What if I shouldn’t have done that? What if I had tried out for the chess team in high school? What if I said yes?
There are a million of these questions that you can consume your time with, but they don’t add up to anything in the end because the fact is whatever you are “what if-ing” about didn’t happen, will never happen and so should concern you about as much as what the weather was in Borneo in the year 1656.
